Otorhinolaryngology
Introduction
Thank you for visiting the website of the Department of Otolaryngology at ISEIKAI International General Hospital.
Our ENT department deals with various conditions related to the ears, nose, oral cavity, and pharynx/larynx, covering a wide range of sensory functions including hearing, balance, smell, taste, voice, and swallowing.
As specialists in these sensory disorders, we are responsible for functions that are essential to human life. While we are well-versed in general ENT conditions, our hospital places particular emphasis on the following specialized areas of diagnosis and treatment.
Characteristics of this department
At the Ear Center, we address a variety of ear-related issues. We actively perform surgical treatments for conditions such as cholesteatoma and otosclerosis, and offer comprehensive diagnosis and evaluation for hearing loss. For eligible cases, surgeries such as middle ear implants and cochlear implants are performed by Dr. Katsumi Doi, a leading expert in the field. Postoperative auditory rehabilitation and speech development therapies are also actively provided.
The Ear Center also collaborates with the Osaka Metropolitan University’s endowed course on Auditory and Language Information Functional Pathology, led by Specially Appointed Professor Sakamoto, to diagnose Listening Difficulties (LiD) and Auditory Processing Disorders (APD). We are capable of providing comprehensive assessments, including sound field testing in noise, APT testing, and developmental evaluations in cooperation with clinical psychologists from psychiatry.
Given the close relationship between hearing loss and tinnitus, we offer auditory support through hearing aids as well as sound therapy for tinnitus. Outpatient services are available with Dr. Takako Kato, a leading expert in the field.
We also actively address pediatric conditions such as childhood hearing loss and speech disorders (e.g., articulation issues) in collaboration with the Obstetrics and Pediatrics departments.
Dr. Miyamoto, a specialist in laryngeal disorders, and Ms. Ukai, a dedicated speech-language pathologist, are in charge of patient care. The field of voice disorders ideally involves consistent care across diagnosis, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation. However, such comprehensive facilities are rare even in Osaka. At our hospital, Dr. Makoto Miyamoto, a leading expert, provides appropriate evaluation, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation for voice disorders in cooperation with dedicated speech-language pathologists.
We can respond to a wide range of voice-related difficulties. In addition, we also provide diagnosis and treatment in the laryngeal and tracheal areas, including swallowing disorders, laryngeal diseases in neonates/infants, and airway management in tracheostomy patients.
We have also begun the introduction and maintenance of sublingual immunotherapy for allergic rhinitis caused by dust mites or cedar pollen. (Note: New introductions of cedar pollen treatment are currently suspended due to supply issues.)
Furthermore, we diagnose and treat chronic refractory cough as well.
