Thoracic Surgery
Introduction
Thank you for visiting Iseikai International General Hospital’s home page for the Department of Thoracic Surgery. The Department of Thoracic Surgery is in charge of surgical treatment for the following respiratory diseases in close collaboration with the Department of Respiratory Medicine and the Department of Oncology. If you have detected shadows in your lungs on X-rays or CT scans, or if you are concerned about respiratory symptoms such as cough, phlegm, chest pain, or shortness of breath, please feel free to visit our respiratory center and consult us. We will respond quickly after consulting with the appropriate department.

Characteristics of this department
For lung cancer, spontaneous pneumothorax, and mediastinal tumors, we actively engage in endoscopic (thoracoscopic) surgery, which causes smaller scars and is less stressful on the body. We have a lot of experience in this field. For small lung cancers, we perform segmental resection to preserve lung function. In addition, for advanced cancers, we aim for a complete cure by combining radiation therapy and chemotherapy.

Main diseases
Lung cancer, metastatic lung tumor, pneumothorax, empyema(pyothorax), mediastinal tumor, chest wall tumor
Treatment
We actively perform thoracoscopic surgery (lung resection, mediastinal tumor removal, empyema curettage) that is gentle on the body. In cooperation with internal medicine and radiotherapy departments, we also handle extended surgery (preoperative radiation, surgery after chemotherapy). We also provide postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy after radical treatment for advanced cancer.
